RCYFL History

The RCYFL was founded in 2003 by a group of individuals that sought to bring a youth football program to the county, that would promote development of youth athletes that ultimately fed or participated in the Rockingham County High School Football Program. The concept of the RCYFL was based on having the four feeder elementary schools (Lincoln, Bethany, Monroeton, Wentworth) all playing each other for bragging rights and school superiority. It was an instant success!

The RCYFL's success soon brought interest from other area teams wanting to participate in the league.  It soon grew to include teams from the Madison, Stokesdale, Eden, Stoneville, Huntsville, and Northern Guilford County areas. The RCYFL saw great success and lots of competitive football that benefited multiple area football programs.

With the hire of a new head coach (Brad Baker) at RCHS for the 2017 season, a renewed emphasis was placed on youth football with a top down mentality for player development. Coach Baker would take a hard look at the current status of the RCYFL and ultimately determine the core teams should be consolidated and would play in the Piedmont Triad Youth Football League (PTYFL).  This combination of teams resulted in forming the Rockingham Cougars

Youth Football & Cheer organization.  The PTYFL consists of team across Rockingham and Guilford county along with a team based of Martinsville VA.  We play a traditional fall football with practice beginning in early August.  Regular season games begin the Saturday after Labor Day.  Playoffs and championship games follow the regular season and we typically end our season around the first weekend in November.
